Located in the tropics of the western hemisphere and playing a small part of the Atlantic Ocean is the formidable Caribbean Sea. With its virtually permanent trade winds and fantastic climate the Caribbean Sea is home to 22 island territories and is bordered by 12 continental countries. Diving has long been a big attraction to the Caribbean and this area contains approximately 9% of the world's coral reef covering 52,000 square kilometers.
The history of the Caribbean is as mixed and varied as the colors of the sands. From age-old stories of explorers, piracy and varied colonial backgrounds you are sure to find a diverse experience when you visit the Caribbean. The cultures, foods, people, language and even the music bring as much diversity as the diving.
Typical diving conditions in the Caribbean are superb with warm water temperatures and great visibility. There are dives to suit everyone walls, wrecks and reefs to name a few. The list of "likely to see" is also impressive from the huge corals and sponges, colorful reef fish, rays, manta's, dolphins, sharks and whales – how could you fail to be impressed?
Consisting of over 7,000 islands, this number includes islets (very small rocky islands), cay's (small, low islands composed largely of sand or coral) and a few inhabited reefs.
