The vibrant coral reefs in the Musandam Peninsula are quite simply teeming with marine life such as turtles, dolphins, various rays, moray eels, leopard sharks and the occasional whale shark to name just a few. Often referred to as the "Norway of the Arabian Gulf" the Musandam Peninsula has a very distinctive fjord topography, which offers some very exhilarating drift diving.

The backdrop of the Hajar mountains gives this peninsula a magical appearance added with the thousands of resident and visiting birds in the area it is certainly a perfect photo opportunity. Best time of year

Oman has a great year round dry climate making diving possible every day of the year. During the summer months, May to October temperatures can regularly exceed 40 degrees and sea temperatures are between 25 degrees during the winter rising to the early 30's during the summer. May to August is generally quite humid.

How to get there

Diving in the Musandam Peninsula is easily reached from Dubai, situated approximately 120 kilometers away. Dubai is a major international hub receiving worldwide flights daily. Frequently Asked Questions

Currency – the Omani Rial is the official currency however the United Arab Emirate Dirham is commonly used, along with sterling and US dollars. ATM machines are easily found in Dubai and credit cards are widely accepted.
Electricity is 220-240 volts with 3 pin UK style plugs, please take adaptors with you.
Medical facilities are limited in Oman however they are plentiful in Dubai.
Visas are usually issued on arrival in Dubai but please check with your local United Arab Emirate consulate well in advance of travel.
All divers require comprehensive personal diving insurance it is advisable to purchase this before traveling.

Omani Cuisine

Meals on board the Dhow liveaboards are tailored more towards an international palette but also including the use of local Omani produce. All meals are buffet style and served in a very informal environment. Meals take on the laid back approach of this leisurely destination. Traditional Omani cuisine tends to be simple and unlike many of its neighbors they use very little spice and marinades to flavor. Most commonly served are rice, chicken, fish and mutton.
